Overview to GD

The Glass Container Modelling (GD) Suite, is a suite of numerical modelling programs which are designed to provide glassmakers with decision support system tools to aid in the design, production and quality control of glass containers.

GD is a self contained package that comprise pre and post processors and analysis modules for the complete definition of the problem and assessment of the results. The GD suite has four main modules:

IFORM

IFORM has been designed to simulate the forming process of round glass containers from gob delivery through parison formation, invert and final blow until mould open. The types of forming process modelled include; BB, PB and NNPB.

ISTRESS

ISTRESS analyses the integrity of containers subjected to head loads and internal pressure loads. Assessment of a container’s integrity can be made by comparing the predicted results against experimentally determined failure stress curves.

Accompanying the ISTRESS package is a Damage Assessment manual which guides the user through the interpretation of the ISTRESS results and describes how the user may set up their own failure stress indicators.

IDYNE

IDYNE analyses the integrity of containers subjected to impact loads for example filling line collisions, drop loads and AGR hammer tests.

MOULDS

MOULDS may be used to predict the thermal conditions of both Blank and Mould side for blow blow (BB), press and blow (PB) and narrow neck press and blow (NNPB) processes.

The mould set up is fully three dimensional, and can handle both round and non-round containers. Hole patterns may be defined for both vertical and central cooling, with central cooling patterns defined individually for top and bottom sections.

Platforms
The GD suite runs on a PC, with the Moulds package also capable of running on a workstation platform.
